Nestled in the Damascus countryside, our brewery is more than a place to enjoy exceptional beers; it’s a gathering spot for friends, families, and fellow beer enthusiasts alike. While the stunning expanse of farmland and remarkable brews will welcome you to Stone Silo, it is the rich history of the property and the passion of its owners that will keep you there.
Crafting Beer,
Cultivating Experiences
The story begins in 1992, when Don and Susan Katzenberger bought their first plot of agricultural land in Damascus, Maryland, to build a home for their family. Don dreamed of being a farmer since he was a young boy, so over the years their property evolved not just into a home, but a lifestyle of utilizing and respecting the land. Cultivating crops, raising animals of all kinds, and giving back to the community became their passion.
Don had the opportunity to purchase the farmland adjacent to their existing property in 2020, the decision was clear. Soon after finalizing the sale, Don and Susan took an evening walk with a celebratory beer and had a vision to one day open a brewery. With Susan’s keen eye for design, Don’s passion for agriculture, and their mutual love of beer, they remodeled the farm’s original structures to design the brewery of their dreams.
The original farm’s silo dated back to 1931 and served as inspiration for the name: Stone Silo Brewery. What is now the main tap room of the brewery used to be the farm’s milk house, which would have been an essential part of the active dairy barn. By repurposing the original beams of these structures, the silo and milk house were reconstructed into the brewery that stands today.
The Katzenberger family is elated to finally share Stone Silo Brewery with their community and can’t wait to meet you!
